Work Experience: Day 2

8:00am-9:00am: Clinical Meeting where doctors went over the difficult cases that could not be resolved.

9:00am-12:00pm: Ward rounds with the registrar. Those cases that interested me the most were firstly a man who was a chronic alcoholic and thus needed a lot of diazepam was necessary in order to just stop him from shaking and to also relieve the pain that he was under. The other interesting patient was a man who presented a giant bruise on his thigh that pretty much covered the whole of the man's thigh. It was also oozing a lot of blood as well and thus an ultrasound was ordered in order to work out how the bruising came about.

1:00pm-4:00pm: For these hours I was watching numerous angiograms and angioplastys and was thus able to learn the basics of angiogram imaging.

Overall it was a great day but it would have been more in depth but during my first writing of this entry it was all deleted so I couldn't really be bothered again.

Either way, peace out and have an awesome frickin' day dudes!

Work Experience: Day 1

9:00am: Made it to the hospital just in time for ward rounds just in time and was introduced to the registrar who I would be shadowing for the next few days.

9:00am-12:00pm: Followed the registrar round the many bays in the hospital whilst trying to forget that my feet were slowly dying. However, the rounds were absolutely amazing, and watching the doctor perform all of the examinations was fantastic. The first patient did not speak any English and thus a translator was used in order to understand what was wrong. However, not being able to understand exactly what the patient meant made it much harder for the doctor to try and diagnose them. Another extremely interesting case was one that is known as rare in the doctoring world. This is a cardiac condition known as Takotsubo which is generally caused by stress and emotion.

12:00pm-14:30pm: Very, very long lunch break resting my feet!

14:30pm-16:45pm: From these times I watched over some MRI scans which proved to be very fascinating and really made me realise how in-depth the images they get, and how useful imaging is in modern day medicine. This was further emphasised when I watched a CT scan which really made me realise that these scans can point out almost every abnormality in the human body.

However I shall wait for what tomorrow holds for me but I am not looking forward to the early 5:00 am wake up!!!! Have an awesome frickin' day dudes!!

And the summer continues....

OK so I am back into the blogging world. I figured I was bored so I may as well update this. So, as the summer continues I find myself getting more and more bored as there seems to be less and less to do. However on the plus side my girlfriend came down to stay for a few days and that was exciting.

On Monday, we went into town and watched the epic finale to the Toy Story Trilogy and by God it was awesome. The second one had always been a bit of a disappointment to me but this last one was absolutely phenomenal. The end was also quite sad when Andy was handing over all of his old toys to the young girl describing what each toy was like. I found that to be quite a touching ending, and one fitting of such a popular movie. On the Tuesday, as we didn't particularly have much money, we stayed in and decided to bake. Once again we made some amazing cheesy nachos, and after that started to make some cookie-men (cookies shaped like men) which more turned out to look like 'Michelin' men which was rather comical. She left on the Wednesday and thus began my descent into boredom. I wish there was more I could talk about but really it would involve my 'drunkenness' or me playing call of duty.

In regards to my application, I hope to be beginning my HCA job rather soon, seeing as my manager had finally decided to submit his reference some weeks after receiving the e-mail to do so but c'est la vie, life goes on. Next week I am in London shadowing a consultant cardiologist which I am really looking forward to, and shall also give me plenty to blog about as I reflect on my experiences. After that I am off to Newquay with the 'lads' on a drunken holiday which should be awesome. However, once that is over it is sort of the end of the summer as I begin to prepare fully for my next medicine application i.e. sitting the UKCAT, writing my personal statement, and the long wait for the results which could burst my dream of becoming a doctor there and then.

But hey, I look forward to blogging next week, hopefully everyday, recording my experiences of shadowing this doctor.

Either way, thanks for reading if you made it this far, and have an awesome frickin' day dude!

Holiday Boredom

Once again I have neglected this blog. I am deeply apologetic however it is a very hard thing to keep going considering I have very little to blog about at the moment. Since the exams finished I have not really been exerting myself too much and have merely been sitting, playing games and going around the girlfriends. Seeing as I must write about something, I guess I shall write about these.

Well, of those things mentioned above the only interesting one was going around my girlfriends. This probably doesn't sound as interesting to most but I am in a long distance relationship as I live in Essex and she lives in Oxford. Thus, when we see each other it is generally very long and exciting. I got to her house on the Monday and stayed until the following Sunday which was highly eventful. On the Wednesday, we took a train into London and went to the London Dungeon's. Now, I remember going as a child but was deeply disappointed with it now I am older. It is not scary in the slightest although the rides are still good fun. After this we took a huge walk through Hyde Park in order to get to the Natural History and Science museums (yes we are both sad like that) which was awesome. The next most memorable thing was me going punting for the first time ever. It was clear as soon as we started that I was not a natural because no matter how hard I tried the boat would always float into the trees where I would have to duck in order to avoid them. NOT GOOD! We then ended my trip with a BANG as we went to Thorpe Park. This was the highlight of the week for me as I have never been to a large amusement park before and thus found everything exciting and it provided a perfect day out for any adrenaline junky!

Thus ended my trip to Oxford, and it was back home for me and the boredom ensued. I guess this is why I am updating this thing. I hope to start my healthcare assistant job in the near future which should give me plenty to blog about, as well as my results coming out soon and further into the future me beginning another dreaded UCAS application where I can bore you with the stresses and strains it puts me through for your amusement.

Either way though, thanks for reading and have an awesome day dudes!
